A viewer's request piano tutorial. "Ocean" is the name we associate today with this piece but the source of Chopin's inspiration appears to have been quite different. As a descriptive title it fits the work well for modern tastes so I've kept this as a theme in the video. Ocean is a very playable study. Opinions differs as to it's relative difficulty compared to his other studies. My own view is the underlying patters in this piece are beautifully simple and hope the video encourages those wishing to play this piece for the first time to do so.

If you're interested in a video link, here's an old family video of a trip across a choppy sea on a stormy day in a small boat to Maya Bay in Thailand (setting of The Beach) The colour of the sea on our journey turns from grey, to black then the clearest emerald green in the lagoons.
