The scrolling text is Agamemnon’s prayer from the “Iliad” by Homer, in the german translation by Johann Heinrich Voß. It reads:

„Zeus, ruhmwürdig und hehr, schwarzwolkiger, Herrscher des Äthers! Nicht bevor laß sinken die Sonn’, und das Dunkel heraufziehn, eh’ ich hinab von der Höhe gestürzt des Priamos Wohnung, dunkel von Rauch, und die Tore mit feindlicher Flamme verwüstet; eh’ ich vor Hektors Brust ringsher zerrissen den Panzer mit eindringendem Erz, und viel um ihn der Genossen, vorwärts liegend im Staub, mit Geknirsch in die Erde gebissen!”

“Zeus, fame worthy and sublime, black cloudy one, ruler of the æther! Do not let the sun descend, nor the dark rise, until I have toppled down from the heights Priam’s dwelling, dark from smoke, the gates devastated with hostile flames; until from Hector’s breast I tear the armour with piercing ore, and many a companion around him is lying face down in the dirt, biting the dust!”
