Jack Carter (Sylvester Stallone) is a ruthless debt collector and hitman who executes his assignments without scruples. The death of his brother, Richie, throws him off course. Suddenly, he demonstrates a sense of family loyalty and begins to question the life he has led—much to the astonishment of his sister-in-law, Gloria (Miranda Richardson), and his niece, Doreen (Rachel Leigh Cook). However, when it turns out that Richie's "accident" was actually a murder, Jack reverts to his old self. Together with Doreen, he descends into the seedy underworld of Las Vegas with only one goal in mind: revenge. But as Jack closes in on the truth, the dark shadows of his own past catch up with him.
