Hundreds of thousands of people come from abroad to work in Germany with good qualifications and high hopes of professional success. But their hopes are often dashed when they find their qualifications are not recognized. Education minister Annette Schavan wants to change this by cutting red tape, but a number of politicians think she needs to do even more.
