Promoting fuel efficiency, that's the goal that Shell has taken on with its Eco-Marathon.The competition is open not only to students in Europe but also from abroad and the teams can enter one of these categories: in the"Urban Concept"category, the design must incorporate practical features and be fit for use on the road. In the"Prototype"class, teams can really let their creativity run wild. For the first time, this year's event also featured a section specifically for electrically-powered vehicles in which 30 entrants battled it out. In the event's first outing back in 1985, all of the vehicles were powered by gasoline. This year, however, over half the field consisted of vehicles powered by alternative fuels.
